Playing with iMovie - my first trailer

My friend Bill made a video... 

And it was really cool. So I said "Hey Bill - how did you make that?" He said "iMovie trailers!"

All this time I've been messing with iMovie I never once did a trailer. Until now.

I took some of the footage from the Great kid movie project, and played with various trailers until I came up with something fun.



What would (will) I do differently?

I would make a copy before I tell iMovie to "convert trailer to movie". Somehow I missed the whole word "Convert". That meant that once I discovered something I wanted to change (specifically the camera bobble when Joe is standing by the cow fence) I couldn't do it. Not easily anyway.

And then there was the whole closing credits thing...

So who's Pickles McWeiner anyway?

 It's a Facebook account my oldest son created about eight years ago. This was another thing I wanted to change after conversion. That wouldn't have been too difficult actually, but once I saw it I thought "Meh. It's kind of an Easter Egg..."

Let's take last week's stress buster post and go a little deeper. Beth and I have been married since 1990. For most of those years we have taken an extended family vacation to the beach near Charleston South Carolina (sometimes Isle of Palms, sometimes Kiawah Island, sometimes Seabrook Island).   One week every summer. We have toured the city, eaten at some fantastic restaurants, toured historical sites, shopped, gone to minor league baseball games and much much more. But if you asked Beth or me what our favorite moment on the vacations are, we would tell you “Our walks on the beach”. Every day we get to the beach, and walk on the sand, maybe put our feet in the ocean. I pick up shell fragments (Isle of Palms doesn’t seem to have a ton of complete shells). We walk and talk. We listen to the waves. We feel the breeze.  That last one is important because it can get really hot in Charleston in the summer. Monday Stress Buster - Slow Down

I use several sources to keep up with what's going on the world. When two of those sources point to the same thing in the same day (and in today's case back to back) that catches my attention.  When it's about stress management, it moves to the top of my "Things I want to blog about" list. That's how I c ame to the most obvious (and yet somehow overlooked by me) idea: SLOW DOWN! Here's a link to the article that started my research.  Full disclosure: I don't agree with everything they said. Full disclosure part two: They reference a study by the Pew Research Center . If you read the article, read the study as well, because I drew a different conclusion from their study. Intellectually I KNOW I need to Slow Down. I know that "moving at the speed of business" or one of 100 other buzzwords can cause stress. So when I see the idea of "Slow Down" I think "Who doesn't know that?" Most days I love my home office.

But then there is the occasional Monday. By "occasional" I should be clear: It's happened twice in the 17 years we've lived here, and this the first time a black rat snake made its way to my office. How do you react to seeing something that might be trouble? My first reaction was "Maybe it's a cord. Or maybe a toy snake." Then it moved. My next reaction was "%$@#!!!" <--- You can substitute any word you like there - I said all of them. Then I moved to solution mode. I emptied my round trash can and cornered the snake.  There is one problem in the prior sentence: round trash can and corner don't work well together. So I got my baseball bat and...  (No snakes were harmed, no matter how scared I was. I have a no-kill policy for any creature that is non-venomous. Black rat snakes are non-venomous). (As a side note, my definition of non-venomous conveniently excludes hornets, mosquitoes and centipedes from my amnesty). Where was I? Oh yeah -
